What IS Hypnotherapy?

Hypnotherapy is still wildly misunderstood- let's get a simple overview!

What hypnotherapy isn't:
Contrary to what stage magicians and television dramas might suggest, hypnotherapy isn't about mind control, clucking like a chicken, or suddenly revealing your deepest secrets to a stranger with a swinging watch. You can’t be made to do anything against your will, and you won’t lose consciousness or start floating out of your chair. Hypnosis is a focused, relaxed state of awareness—not a trance of surrender. Think of it more as guided daydreaming than dark sorcery.

What hypnotherapy is:
Hypnotherapy is a therapeutic technique that uses gentle, focused attention to help you access parts of your mind where habits, beliefs, and emotional responses live—and where genuine change can begin. It’s a collaborative process between hypnotherapist and client, blending relaxation with suggestion to support goals like reducing stress, conquering phobias, building confidence, or managing pain. In short, it’s less about losing control and more about reclaiming it, with your subconscious mind as an ally rather than a mystery.
